Watershed Advocacy
The Saugus River Watershed Council provides written comments and testifies at public hearings during the environmental permitting process for major development projects that could have a significant impact on the natural resources of the watershed. Our priorities include protecting buffer zones, preventing increased stormwater pollution, and protecting fisheries. Some of the projects and issues we recently commented on include:

  • Wheelabrator Saugus (various)
  • Redevelopment of the Sheraton Colonial Property (212 acres) (Lynnfield, Wakefield)
  • Saugus River Turning Basin Project, Saugus Iron Works, (Saugus)
  • Tennessee Gas Pipeline - 7.5 linear miles (Lynnfield, Wakefield and Saugus)
  • BJ’s Wholesale Warehouse and Planned Unit Development (19 acres) (Revere)
  • Municipal Harbor Plan (Lynn)
  • Residential Development at 71 North Shore Road (Revere)
  • DCR Rumney Marsh Gateway Project, Eastern Avenue (Saugus)
  • Municipal projects to upgrade sewer and storm drainage systems (Saugus, Lynn and Revere)
  • Lake Quannapowitt, Cleanup of Contaminated Sediments (Wakefield)
